As we spend 8 hours per night on our mattress and lose more than a litre of liquid per night, it is necessary to be able to clean your mattress cover at least once a year.
This is why all our mattresses come with a removable and cleanable cover. Some of our covers are dry-cleanable, while others are washable at 95° Celsius. Cleaning your mattress gets rid of all bacteria, dust-mites and odours and allows you to sleep in a fresh and hygienic environment.
Our covers come with a zipper going all the way around the mattress, so that the two parts can be easily separated. This way, the cover is less bulky and can be individually cleaned.
Removable covers also allow you to have a look at the inside of our mattress and inspect our quality. This is another reason why we like a zipped cover. We have nothing to hide, we only use the highest quality materials and are happy for you to have a look inside.
Is it important to have a removable and cleanable mattress cover? The answer is a resounding yes. Let's find out why. A removable cleanable mattress cover lets you have the health and hygiene you desire You certainly don't want perspiration, dust mites, mould, bacteria or smell on your mattress. That's why a removable cleanable mattress cover is the ideal solution to make sure your mattress is clean and hygienic at all times. Surprisingly, very few mattresses in other stores come with a cover. Yet at Heveya® Singapore, all of our mattresses come with a removable cleanable mattress cover. Let's find out more about what sorts of things can get on your mattress - you may be surprised! Perspiration When you spend 8 hours a night on your mattress, a considerable amount of perspiration will make its way onto your mattress cover over that time. Even if you don't feel overly hot, your body naturally loses some liquid during sleep. No-one wants months-old or years-old perspiration on their mattress - yet that is exactly what will happen if you don't have a removable mattress cover that can be cleaned. Dust mites A cleanable mattress cover allows you to remove dust mites. Even though some mattress cores, such as those made of latex, are dust mite-, mould- and bacteria resistant, it is still always a good idea to clean the mattress cover once a while. Dust mites are tiny organisms, barely visible to the naked eye that can cause allergies. They feed on flakes of human skin and are commonly found in bedding and other household surfaces. Did you know that dust mites belong to class arachnida - the same class as spiders and scorpions? You certainly don't want a bunch of these on your mattress or bedding. Yet this is one of the most favorable environments for dust mites due to the presence of human skin for them to feed on and the high humidity due to perspiration (dust mites require a certain level of humidity to survive). They can be readily killed by high temperatures. A removable cleanable mattress cover which can be exposed to very hot water will definitely eradicate existing mites. Bedbugs Have you ever woke up with reddish bumps on your skin similar to a mosquito bite? You will be surprised to know that the real culprit may not be mosquitoes but bed bugs instead. The scientific name of a bed bug is known as Cimex Lectularius. It feeds on the blood of warm-blooded animals including humans. As we spend one-third of our life in bed, our mattress has become a favorite habitat for them. Simply washing the mattress cover with normal temperature water is insufficient to kill the bed bugs. A high temperature is required to eliminate bed bugs effectively. Our mattress cover is dry cleanable and therefore will help to remove bed bugs completely. Mould While a latex mattress is naturally mould resistant, your bedding isn't. This is why it's important to have a mattress cover you can remove and clean. In the warm humid climate of Singapore, mould can grow very easily. Regular removal and cleaning of the mattress cover is critical in preventing growth of mould spores. Bacteria Even the cleanest people release oils and perspiration into their bedding as they sleep, and this attracts bacteria. You simply cannot avoid this. Bacteria will continue to reproduce when conditions are favorable for them (food source available, correct temperature, etc.) A mattress full of bacteria doesn't sound appealing! To periodically remove the bacteria, you will need to be able to clean your mattress cover, and this is why a removable mattress cover is important. Smell A mattress used without a mattress cover will develop an odour over time, no matter how careful you are about cleanliness. The smell may be due to things such as bacterial growth mentioned above, or odour from oily hair, and so on. To avoid this, you will need to regularly clean your mattress cover. A removable mattress cover is therefore critical in this area. Allergens Some people are allergic to dust mites, mould, and certain species of bacteria. For anyone suffering from allergies, it's critical to avoid these allergens. We learned above about these things from a non-allergic perspective, but this becomes even more important for those who suffer from allergies. If you want to avoid allergens in your mattress, you will absolutely need to have a removable cleanable mattress cover. Remember also that those who suffer from allergies will need to have their mattress cover cleaned even more frequently than those who don't. How should I clean my mattress cover? The mattress cover will unzip all the way around for easy removal. It will come with a care guide or cleaning instructions and it's important to follow these correctly. One type of mattress cover may require a different method of cleaning from another mattress cover. Usually, these methods are either machine washing or dry cleaning. Therefore, it's important to follow the cleaning instructions given with your particular type of mattress cover. If your mattress cover specifies that it can be washed at a certain temperature (e.g. 95 degrees Celsius) then wash it as close to that temperature as possible without going above it. This will ensure you achieve effective removal of dust mites, smells, germs, and so on. Washing at too low of a temperature may not completely remove these bacteries. Conclusion You can't completely avoid the presence of bacteria, dust mites and so on. But you can (and should) periodically remove them by cleaning your mattress cover. It's critical to get these under control before they increase. All too many mattresses are sold without a completely enclosable mattress cover. Such mattresses can quickly and irreversibly become impregnated with perspiration, mould, dust mites and odours. By contrast, our removable mattress covers allow you to periodically remove these problems before they have a chance to get into the mattress. This way your mattress is always kept fresh and clean. A removable cleanable mattress cover is the only way that you can easily and conveniently get rid of dust mites, smell, mould, and perspiration. You can relax knowing that you're sleeping in a hygienic and fresh environment when you use our cleanable mattress covers. Here at Heveya® Singapore we believe in creating a safe and sound sleeping environment for you. This is why all our mattresses come with a removable cleanable cover.
Mattress care guide If you want your mattress to last longer, follow this helpful guide on mattress care. Enjoy good night’s sleep for years to come. Give your mattress a good support. Use a sturdy bed frame with adequate center support that will prevent bowing or breakage. Rotate your mattress every six months. This is to ensure that a person sleeps on different parts of the mattress to even out the pressure. If the mattress you bought has a good mattress core that allows you to sleep on either side, you should flip-over and sleep on the other side once a while to extend the lifespan of the mattress. Buy a good mattress that allows you to rotate and flip regularly to extend the lifespan of your mattress. Let your mattress breathe. Ventilate your room every day. We recommend using a slatted bed base as a support, rather than a full plank or box spring to facilitate breathability. Wash your mattress cover if it is removable and washable. If you need to clean the mattress core, use a damp cloth and rub lightly. Do not expose the mattress core to UV or sun or daylight! If removing the mattress cover is not possible, then vacuuming is the recommended cleaning method. However, check your mattress label or warranty for any special instructions on cleaning or maintaining your mattress. Use a mattress protector on top of your mattress if it does not come with a removable or washable cover. A washable mattress protector is good to keep your mattress fresh and free from stains. The Quality of Mattress Affects Your Sleep
Did you know your mattress is one of the most used items at home? For many of you readers, your mattress can even be your best friend! While your mattress will always have your back (both figuratively and literally), are you sure you’re protecting it to your best ability? Throughout the mattress's lifespan, untimely spills, night sweats, and general wear and tear can transform your mattress into a hotspot for unwanted guests. With the average person spending eight to ten hours in bed, your mattress hygiene can have a significant impact on your health. First line of defense Here is where mattress protectors shine. Mattress protectors can be thought of as the mattress’s second skin – a barrier against all sorts of unwanted guests and allergens. Aside from sheets, your mattress protector is the only protection between the outside world and your mattress. It should fit the mattress seamlessly and always stay in place to protect against spontaneous stains and spills. Whenever the need arises, your mattress protector can easily be washed, keeping your mattress looking and feeling new longer. Investing early in mattress protection can really enhance mattress longevity which saves you thousands down the line, making it a crucial addition to your bedding assembly. As you will also be sleeping on the protector for extended periods of time, it is important to choose the right protector for your needs. Here’s how to choose the perfect one! 1. Natural vs Synthetic Traditional mattress protectors which are designed to be water resistant are manufactured from synthetic materials. However, they make the sleeping experience hotter and more uncomfortable. So if you live in a humid climate or are a sweaty sleeper, synthetic mattress protectors may not be the ideal choice. On the other hand, protectors made of natural products such as cotton, bamboo and silk, have the upper hand when it comes to breathability. Bamboo in particular, has a porous microstructure that allows it to adeptly regulate temperature and moisture, giving it that signature breathability and comfort. This makes natural protectors beneficial if your region is prone to humidity and temperature fluctuations. Where natural mattress protectors lack in waterproofing, they make up for it in the breathability and hypoallergenic department. These protectors, like Heveya®’s organic cotton and bamboo protectors, are your best choice if your primary concern lies in dirt and allergen accumulation. 2. Elevated comfort Comfort is one of the most important things when it comes to sleep. Likewise, your mattress protector should enhance the comfort of your mattress, not work against it. A good mattress protector is one which fits the mattress seamlessly, while maintaining a dense comfort layer that will not flatten out over time. A good indication of this is the protector’s depth and grams per square meter (GSM). Mattress protectors with high GSM are not only soft and durable, but also prevent allergens from seeping into the mattress. Hence, when choosing your mattress protector, GSM is definitely not to be overlooked! 3. Fuss free maintenance Don’t underestimate the power of a simple maintenance procedure – after all, your mattress protector will be frequently washed and rejuvenated to take on any new stains or spills. Mattress encasings, while providing all rounded protection, can distort the look of sheets with their bulky design and complicate the removal process. Conversely, mattress protectors which are designed to sit directly on top of the mattress and secured only via elastic straps located at its corners are easier to remove. On top of considering the fit of your protector, look for one which is machine washable and heat friendly. It is more ideal since you can simply toss it into the machine as part of your usual cleaning routine, or whenever the need arises. We also suggest washing your protector every two months or so. Year round protection, regardless the mattress At this point, you may ask, “Why would I need a mattress protector since my Heveya® mattress already comes with a removable mattress cover?” Well, having the removable mattress cover helps in keeping your mattress mold and dust mite free in the long term. Conversely, a mattress protector is convenient for protection against quick spills and accidents. Every mattress can benefit from being protected by a mattress protector. If you don’t have one already, consider getting one! After all, a mattress protector is inexpensive, and helps you get a comfortable night’s sleep with minimal fuss or effort. And if you are looking for something that can elevate the sleeping experience while helping you save the world as you sleep, look no further than the Heveya® Organic Mattress Protector.
